The FY2027 ICD-10 update: what changed on October 1, 2026
Every October 1, the ICD-10 code sets roll over. FY2027 covers encounters and discharges from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, and there is no grace period: a code deleted for FY2027 is invalid for those dates even if the claim is otherwise perfect.
The FY2027 changes, by the files
- ICD-10-CM: 190 new codes, 30 deleted, 8 revised descriptions (from the NCHS codes addenda).
- ICD-10-PCS: 101 new codes, 38 deleted, 6 revised descriptions (from the CMS codes addenda).
The deletions matter more than the additions for most practices: a deleted code usually means the category was split and the diagnosis now needs an extra character or a different subcategory. Billing the deleted code is a guaranteed rejection.
Where stale codes hide
- Favorites and pick lists in the EHR - built once, never audited.
- Order sets and templates - the note template that auto-fills last year's code.
- Superbills and charge sheets - paper forms are the last to be reprinted.
Fast audit: take your top 50 diagnosis codes by volume and check each one against the FY2027 set. On this site, any code on a category page is valid and billable for FY2027 - and any code you cannot find, in search or on its category page, deserves a second look before the next claim goes out.
